Blow out that cherrybomb
Soundbite: Fracture (Glamour For Better)
To put it simply, Spoon was pretty awesome. Perhaps it’s the fact that I went in without much expectations, or that I was just in a particularly good mood all day long, but it definitely was an evening well spent. The band played well, there weren’t any significant technical faults, and the crowd was quite civilised (barring for a few dickheads) which was just fantastic. No pushing or shoving or having sweaty people wipe their body fluids all over me in one swift motion … it’s just the way I like it. Got pretty excited when they played They Never Got You because I personally never found it to be a standout song but they executed it beautifully and now I can’t stop listening to it. Britt Daniel didn’t say much but I still found him charming, in a quiet kind of way. And he smiled and waved at me mid-song (I can confirm this) so that certainly gave his appeal a boost in my books.
Crayon Fields, a local Melbourne band, opened for them with an hour-long set which was pleasant enough, but not consistently good. Arthur and I spent most of their set discussing how the second guitarist really made the songs much better and catchier, and how shy the lead vocalist was. Really, that guy either sang to the ground or some distant point in the horizon because he hardly looked straight at the audience. Kinda cute but like … dude. -_- That’s pretty unglam for a rockstar.
Anyway, you can click here to view most of the photos I took that night. Had some problems with my camera settings (namely - I didn’t know how to use the fucking thing) so the filtered set is pretty small, but it’s something.
